Robert Ivy is the Chief Executive Officer and Executive vice president of American Institute of Architects. He studied in the University of the South where he studied a Bachelor of Arts in English. He later went for his masters in Tulane University where he graduated with masters in Architecture. His journey in the career world began in 1981 where he was a principal at Dale.

He was also a critic of the many publications that ivy produced. However, it was not until 1996, when Robert Ivy became the chief editor for Architectural Record that his presence and efforts in the architectural world began being noticed. Under his editorial position in Architectural Records, he earned various publication honor. The national excellence award for the general excellence, the McGraw Hill award, which he received for his excellent management naming but a few. Every award he received enabled him to solidify his presence in the architectural world and make him the best when it came to architectural article publications.

The most recent award Robert Ivy has achieved, is the Noel Polk Lifetime Achievement Award. The Mississippi Institute of Arts and Letters give the award. What makes this award stand out from the rest Robert Ivy receives is that it is the first time for the Lifetime Achievement award to go to an architect. The award is given to people or artists whose work creates, performs, and supports the extraordinary worth of art. He joins the list of honorary members of the Mississippi community to receive the special award for their work. Among the list includes actor Morgan Freeman, singer Leontyne Price among others.

During the award ceremony, the CEO of American Institute of Architects noted that Robert Ivy is a worthy ambassador. The award not only crowns his professional achievements but his personal achievements in the Architectural sector as well. He is also an authoritative author when it comes to the publication of books and articles that revolve around the architectural world. He also received an architecture award from National Architecture fraternity for his effective communication of ideas in the designs he creates.
